Course Description & Objectives:

'I have observed in our day many students of learning striving to attain knowledge but failing to do so and are thus barred from its utility and fruition. This is because they have missed the (proper) methods (of learning) and have abandoned the conditions (for acquiring knowledge). And anyone who misses his way goes astray and, therefore, does not reach (his) goal, whether it is modest or glorious.' [Instruction of the Student - Imam al-Zarnuji]

'I studied adab for thirty years and I studied knowledge for twenty years.' [The great scholar of ahadeeth Imam Ibn al-Mubarak]

Information does not necessarily equate to beneficial knowledge, especially in the field of religion. The Sacred Knowledge of Allah and His Prophet (saw) is unique among all disciplines of learning, and thus demands a distinct approach and method of study. Its correct acquisition and successful application require a vision of lofty ideals and an inculcation of noble qualities in the individual.

This intensive course, under the tutelage of an eminent and erudite scholar, aims to educate and equip the student with the necessary understanding and etiquettes to beneficially acquire and apply Sacred Islamic Knowledge.

Topics Covered

  • Where contemporary students and teaching methods lack and differ from the Islamic ideal.
  • The interaction between the students and teachers.
  • Internal and external aspects related to the students of sacred knowledge.
  • How to preserve knowledge.
  • Conduct in a class.
  • The handling and reading of books.
  • Where and from whom should knowledge be taken.

What You Should Achieve

  • A detailed understanding of how a student of sacred knowledge needs to conduct themselves in order to gain barakah (blessings) in their studies.
  • A greater appreciation of knowledge and the mediums by which this knowledge comes to a person.
  • Knowledge of where we have been going wrong all these years and how to turn this around.
  • That knowledge is not about knowing but rather about implementing and fearing Allah.

What You'll Need

On the first day of the course, you will be provided with a folder containing the course program and contents, related materials and standard course documents.
